Welcome to the Doc's den. Below, you will find various techniques that the Doc uses to fish! From the highly acclaimed fishing app, called Fishbrain, to measuring ambient air pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, to ambient air temperature and water temperature. The Doc is trying to find correlations/fishing patterns in upstate NY fishing spots. Please check his analysis out and let him know what he is missing. The Doc is always open for suggestions, improvements, and support!
Tip-up Setup
I use tip-ups with fishing line from U.S. Line Company (Fl. orange or green; 30 lb) with homemade leaders (Berkley Steelon Nylon Coated Wire 20 lb dia. 0.026; with size 3 wire leader connector sleeves and various small, large beads, and different blades and colors). I use treble #8 hooks.

Data Analysis
Contour Map of Grass Lake
Grass Lake is located in Redwood, NY is holds many types of fish: pike, perch, bass, crappie, and possibly walleye. The Doc's location is indicated on the map with the double arrow! His tip-up locations are also shown...see contour map for depth analysis!
Temperature Contour map
The figure to the right shows a contour map of the Doc's 5 tip-ups. The data was taken with the Marcum Recon 5+. It was strange to see some sort of inversion layer - we doubled checked. We did catch a lot of largemouth bass today! Note that tip-up # 6 minnow was only ~5 feet below the ice due the weeds.
Fishing Forecast
The figure below shows many things: Lunar periods from BASS, lunar periods from Infisherman, moonrise from the fishbrain app along with species forecast! The top left image is a picture of the ice. It was 16.5 inches.
Number of Fish Bites
The figure below provides bite information on each tip-up and the excel table shows the fish log. Notice that this time, tip-up # 4 had significant amount of bites!
Ambient Properties
The figure to the left and below show ambient air properties throughout the day.
The figure to the left shows wind speed and direction. Notice that there was no wind at times. It was a very nice day on the ice!
